Joshua can sit up!

Joshua has figured out how to sit himself up from laying down now. Although, he has not figured out how not to fall and smash his head on the hardwood floor once there yet, we'll get there. Hopefully more sooner than later! Here are a couple videos of him propping himself up, minus the falling and screaming bit.

Second tooth making it's debut

Joshua's second tooth finally broke through. Noticed it yesterday, it seems he always sleeps in on the morning when a tooth pops up! Hopefully now he will be in better spirits until the next is ready to break its way through the gums, but we shall see!

Happy half birthday to Joshua!

I can not believe it has already been 6 months, half of a year! In another 6 we'll be having a first birthday bash (time to start planning!) Not a whole lot is new in the world of Joshua lately. He is still trying to figure out how to move forward instead of back when crawling. He can roll over both ways with ease now. He is also getting increasingly more steady sitting up on his own. He has been able to sit up on his own for awhile now but fell down pretty easy before. Now he is pretty steady until he gets distracted and forgets he was in charge of staying upright and flops over.

This week my whole family is at Hampton Beach for vacation so we took a beach day yesterday afternoon and enjoyed the sun. Well, I enjoyed the sun, Joshua sat in the shade a took a nap until he realized it was hot out and he was hungry and then it was all over for him from there! But his Meme was nice and let me go burn my legs in the sun reading my book for a couple baby-free hours while she watched him nap in the cottage for me. I had been flip-flopping on if I wanted to go or not, but ultimately was glad I did. It is always great to see everyone, and everyone was glad to see Joshua.

In honor of 6 months of life, I am posting 6 months of photos with monkey, I can't believe how fast he's grown or how much he's changed! Here's to you little boss!

Joshua telling stories

Joshua's first clam bake.

Yesterday we went to Salem to Jay's cousin Michelle's house for a clam bake. It was a beautiful day, finally not too hot and humid, we could actually BE outside with Joshua without melting or having to peel him off of us after carrying him for a little while! Joshua was a little ladies man and I was given multiple offers from other people who wanted to take him home with them. For the most part, he was a very mellow, happy guy. He got a little angry towards the end, he was tired and hungry, but he is always like that at the end of the day, really. I think he was a little jealous that everyone else was eating steamers and lobsters or hamburgers and hot dogs and all he got was stinky baby food and milk.

He got to feel grass for the first time! Since we actually got to enjoy the weather and were somewhere where there is grass, we plopped Joshua down on his blanket on the grass. Of course he rolled over and got himself to the edge of the blanket and was trying with all of his might to grab handfuls of the grass and eat it. But did we really expect anything less?

Joshua has also decided he likes eating his bottom lip again. He used to do this when he was a newborn, he was always sucking on that bottom lip and he just started to do it again. It's kind of funny to watch. I am wondering if maybe it feels nice on his sore gums, or he is just rubbing anything he can over that tooth trying to figure it out . . . who knows. I DID manage to get a picture of him doing it even though he was trying not to let me catch him!

Snoopy makes it all better.

Joshua had his six month shots and physical today (Even though he's about two weeks from being six months old, the timing for the shots worked out to go early) He is now weighing in at 18lbs and 6 oz. (I was sure he was going to be at least 20lbs!) And he grew  A LOT, he is not 27.5 inches long (note, at his 4 month he was 24.5 inches) He is now in the 80th percentile (I think) for height and average for weight and head circumference.

We learned that it's not time to wean him off of his pacifier, while he is too young to realize he misses it. We were told to only use a pacifier at bed time and that's it. He can amuse himself pretty well now though, so I am pretty sure it won't be too bad for him during the day. His doctor also told me to feed him until he is not hungry anymore when he is eating his solids. I'm not sure she's met him. He'll be eating all day! haha.

Now that he likes to roll onto his belly when he falls asleep at night I asked about that, with sids and all. I was told we are doing the right thing by flipping him back onto his back when he falls asleep. She said to keep doing this until he can easily roll back from his belly to his back, because then he will do what he wants anyways. And this may be part of his trouble sleeping lately, I guess, I was told he may get upset when he wakes up at night and isn't in the same position as he fell asleep. So now, I can't wait until he can roll from his belly to his back all the time on his own!

So I think that's all. he was not a fan of the last two shots he got, he got three in total, and the first didn't seem to phase him at all, but those second two, oh boy... Once he realized what was happening to him, he wasn't a fan. But he got some trendy snoopy band-aids for his boo-boos so all is well now. Till next time!

He was in surprisingly good spirits when we got home

Even though he got 3 shots (awweeee)

But snoopy made it alllll better!
