Sunday Confessions: The Baby Itch

So I have to confess this lovely Sunday. Every time I see Joshua playing with other kids, especially smaller babies (Like Ethan, who is my friend Katie's baby and is completely adorable, and kind of reminds me of Joshua at the same age) it kind of makes me want to have another one so Joshua will always have a buddy.

I always knew I wanted more than one, or more, thought, I wanted more than one. I say it like that because until Joshua was out of me, I also thought I wanted twins. And still I say sometime, thank goodness there is only one of him. Don't get me wrong, he is all sunshine and rainbows most days, but those first couple of months may have been the end of me if he were two, instead of one.

Last time Ethan and Katie came to visit, there was a moment where Joshua wasn't trying to jab out Ethan's eye or throwing a toy at him, where he was just holding his hand and leaned in onto him a little. And it was super cute. And I actually caught myself saying out loud, "Awee, Joshua wants a baby sister!" Ha. Don't get all excited though you baby fanatics (you all know who you are ;-) ) We can't have one just yet. For two very good reasons. 1. We have no room to put two babies. and 2. We haven't even finished paying off the birth of the first one yet. So, that said, if anyone wants to buy us a bigger house, and sell the one we're in, or throw some cash in our direction, maybe we'll think about getting started on #2. In the mean time, we'll just keep enjoying Joshua, and I'll continue to get all mushy when I see him playing with other people's kids until he can have his very own sibling.

These pictures aren't of Ethan, (obviously) These are Joshua and his buddy Brandon. Joshua had a fun day Saturday playing with Brandon and Carter, I think Carter was napping when these were shot.) Doesn't he just look like he wants a baby sister?!

Don't forget to write your own Sunday Confession and link up here! (It doesn't even have to be written on Sunday, since I was so late today... I'll let it slide :-) Kidding, I'd let it slide anyways. So just write a confession blog and link up here! Go!)

Five things I've learned by being a Mom . . . so far

My first actually. Idea from Kat over at Living Like the Kings Go check out her blog and link up! And link up here down below as well!  AND don't forget to find and "like" confessions of a mom on facebook as well! Enjoy!!

1. Patience is a Virtue. this is a big one. If you don't have patience, you will quickly lose your mind during temper tantrums, baby colds, nights with limited sleep . . . or days when your house looks like this.

2. Always appreciate a warm meal. You know, people always said how moms always eat last, if at all, and how you are lucky to A. get to eat while the food is warm, and B. Get to eat slow enough to realize you've eaten or taste your food. It's so true. I always eat last, by the time Joshua, Jay, the dog, and the cat are taken care of. I either don't want to eat what I've made, it's cold, or I'm not even hungry anymore haha.

3. Sometimes you just need to laugh. No matter how bad, or stressful things seem. Or how bad a day we may be having on the baby front, Joshua can always seem to make me laugh and forget about it. Sometimes, when cleaning piles of spaghetti off the floor, or diaper explosions, or washing 98 loads of laundry, it helps to just sit back, look around, and laugh. Because, as they say, this too shall pass (and man, does it go fast!)

4. Sleep is a funny animal. I am one of those people who do not function well on under 7-8 solid hours of sleep. Try telling that to a newborn, infant, or toddler though. I knew, going into this that babies don't always (understatement?) sleep through the night. We still have bad nights over here, though we are lucky because once Joshua started eating more at a time, he pretty much slept through the night without issues. But it's amazing how great 4 hours can feel like 8 after a couple bad nights. Who knew!

5. Plan to never have a set plan, perhaps ever? I don't know... I'll tell you when we get farther in life haha. I feel like anytime I say the words "I will definitely be there" or especially, "I will definitely be there at XX time." It automatically means something is going to happen to either cause me to not be able to go, or at least go on time. On that same note, it takes twice as long to type anything on my computer during Joshua's awake hours as it used to. But with a face like this, how can I feel anything but lucky?

Spaghetti monster!

Someone doesn't like utensils. At least not when I use them to try to feed him. So I gave in, and let him do it himself. This is what happened . . . actually these pictures are deceiving. It was a lot messier than this, I should have taken a picture of the floor!

Sometimes - a mom just needs chocolate.

This, my friends, is a review of Cafe Fleuri's Chocolate buffet, in Boston, MA.

A couple of years ago, the chocolate buffet was discovered, and myself, and some cousins decided we needed to try it. Obviously.

Since then, we decided it also needed to be an annual event. So this year was the second annual chocolate day! For those of you who have never heard of such a thing. A chocolate buffet, if an all you can eat buffet. Of chocolate. It is located in Cafe Fleuri at the Langham hotel in Boston, MA. And to sum it up in one word. Amazing! It is a chocolate lovers dream. Literally. Anything you could ever want to eat that is made out of chocolate, they probably have. Chocolate martinis, make your own candy bar, sundae bar, chocolate fountain, chocolate crepes custom made to your order. . . etc.

As a self-proclaimed chocoholic. I give it an A+. Even though there isn't any "real" food. We managed to convince ourselves we were having a balanced meal. Strawberries are a fruit, so what if they are covered in chocolate or wrapped in a chocolate crepe? Pretzels are kind healthy... drenched in chocolate fountain sauce, right? Riiiight. Anyways. If you have never been here. You MUST go. I think this is something everyone needs to experience at least once in their life (of once a year, whichever)

The only bad words I have about this place, and maybe this particular trip is this. There was a DJ there... which was OK, a little odd for the venue, but ok. Until a group of about 25 tween girls came in for a birthday party and started requesting very loud obnoxious songs, and hanging out the DJ, and dancing, and singing... in the room the chocolate was in. I would have enjoyed a nice jazz band better. haha. Or anything really. That, and the day did not have enough hours! I actually headed back to NH before much of the group to pick up Joshua, and ended up needing to drive to Hollis to pick up my husband too. Next time, we will need to pick a day when Jay is home to play with Joshua, and when I have more money so we can spend ALLL day in Boston and eat and shop to our heart's content!

What could be better than a day filled with laughs, fun, amazing friends and family, amazing chocolate, and Boston. Not a whole lot. Especially when you are a mama and it's one of your few baby free days that you are not at work all day, like me! That's all I've got. I'd write more, but I'm still recovering from my chocolate hangover. Here are some pictures from the day to entice you to go eat your body weight in chocolate.

I thought this was a regular creme puff. NOPE... filled with chocolate cream.

The first trip to the bar's leftovers.

I don't know what this one was, but it was pretty.

Joshua's first birthday party!

Yesterday, February 27, 2011, we celebrated Joshua's first year of life with a party! And of course. It snowed.

I woke up bright and early because Joshua was too excited to sleep (haha... just like every other day?). I opened the blinds, and what do I see? About four inches of snow, and it was still coming down. So I had myself a mini panic attack, then turned on the news.

11 months old

And the count down to his first birthday is on!

Joshua turned 11 months old on the 18th, I tried taking pictures that day but Mr. Wiggly was not having it. So I took some more today when he was feeling for up to the task. We even got some pics with Marvin (the cat) who decided to make himself at home inside of Joshua's toy box.

So some things Joshua likes to do at 11 months:

Dance to Journey. (I have video proof... need to upload someday)
Wave franticly at everyone
Share (he has just started doing this, it's really cute)
Give hugs (but only on his time)
Give kisses
Bite me (which always starts as a kiss and turns into me getting my nose, cheek, head, hand...etc.. bitten.)
Eat everything that fits in his mouth (this has not changed)
He cruises quickly along all the walls and furniture. I am pretty sure if he were brave enough he could let go and walk, but we aren't quite there yet, and he won't let us help him.
Play with the dog and cat, who are surprisingly good with him. No nips, or scratches or anything!
Babble non-stop
Scream like he's being murdered in a horror movie
Play with the cell phones, remote controls, and other non toy objects.
Climb on stairs, mama, the dog.

I think that's all that's new. We have a little social butterfly on our hands. Most days when we need to go out into public Joshua is charming the crowd with his babbling, smiling, and overall cuteness. Here are some of the photos I got of him while he wasn't moving too fast. There are many more on flickr, link to the right, as always!

Did not want to do this on the 18th haha

Kissing Marvin

Is this a new toy, Mom?

How do I get him outa here?

His favorite monkey.

He loves to tackle Mr.Monkey and hug him...so cute

Smiley boy!
